As we continue to fight through the cold and flu season, I wanted to send a couple of reminders of the exclusion criteria and when you should send your student to school or keep them home. At the bottom of this email, you will find a link to the Communicable Disease Guidance provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Reminders: To prevent the spread of communicable disease and illness, students and/or staff who are sick should stay home from school/work. If students are sent to school with symptoms, they will be assessed by the nurse and may be sent home with his/her parent upon arrival. If your child is absent from school for 3 consecutive days or more, you must present a doctor’s note to verify the reason for the absence. A letter from a parent/caregiver is needed when: a child has any condition requiring hospital or surgical care. Criteria for Exclusion from School: Strep throat: Exclude until after 24 hours of effective antimicrobial therapy and afebrile for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. Influenza: Positive cases must stay home for 1-4 days from the onset of symptoms. Exclusion time may vary based on the doctor's discretion. COVID-19: Positive cases must stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. Gastroenteritis (vomiting and/or diarrhea) Bacterial: Exclude until diarrhea and/or vomiting has ceased for at least 24 hours; additional restrictions may apply. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Nurse Lisa can be reached by email at lhaas@riverridge210.org and via phone at 815-858-9005 ext. 333.
