Thank you to Michelle Bass of dcRise Real Estate for presenting a generous grant to our fourth grade class today. Mrs Walters' and Mrs Fry's classes will be celebrating Earth Day with a butterfly and bird house project funded by this grant. Mrs Bass gifted each fourth grader with a water bottle as well. Thank you!

On April 3rd and 4th Cats Care provided dental service to some of our students using grant money provided by Delta Dental of Illinois. Cats Care partnered with Jet Dental to bring a dental team to RR. This team completed x-rays, exams, and restorative care for students. The students were first seen by the mobile dentist program in December and were recommended to have additional dental work completed. We cannot thank Jet Dental, Delta Dental of Illinois and Cats Care enough for providing these services to our students.

The Intro to Ag class has successfully hatched chicks again thisbyear! Students will, with parent permission, take yhe chicks home after Ag Day next Friday!

The River Ridge Drama Department would like to say THANK YOU to the family of Susan Schumacher for the generous donation to the drama department! Your funds will be used to continue the tradition of fantastic shows at River Ridge.

The Business Communications class was out selling advertising space in our publications for next year. Our adventure was cut short due to the impending storm and early dismissal, so if we missed you today, please reach out to us for more information on next year's advertising options. Good afternoon. River Ridge Schools will be dismissing at 2:15 this afternoon due to potential hazardous weather. This means all bus routes will be arriving one hour earlier than normal. Again school will be dismissed today, April 16th at 2:15.

I am SO PROUD of all of the music students at River Ridge! They showed up to play and sing at both Solo and Ensemble and Organizational Contest. From their combined total of points, they held onto 2nd place in the IHSA Music Sweepstakes Tournament for Class D! The last time the music department placed was in 2018 and before that 1986! WAY TO GO WILDCATS!!!

The first away middle school track meet is in the books. Even though the weather was not ideal, our athletes and fans were super troopers! #middleschooltrackstars!

Congratulations to the High School Band, Jazz Band, and Chorus on receiving Division 1 ratings today at IHSA Organization Contest at Stockton!!!!! Great job everyone!!!

As you may know, we are experiencing an outbreak of measles in Illinois that includes adults and children. The current outbreak is concentrated in northeast Illinois with cases in Cook, Will and Lake Counties. These cases have subsequently resulted in multiple exposures in schools in the affected areas. Measles is highly contagious especially in school-aged children. To prevent the spread of infection, it is critical that you ensure that students have the age-appropriate number of doses of measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine, or other evidence of immunity to measles. Please contact Nurse Lisa if you have any questions.

The FFA Ag Mechanics team competed last night! Congratulations to Lucas Holland for winning the Varisty Carpentry division and Ty Spahn for winning in JV. Thomas Harms placed 2nd in welding and Nick Cobine was 6th in Power. The team place 3rd overall. Congratulations also to Avery Engle for winning the Extemporaneous category in Public Speaking. She will now go on to the district competition in Geneseo in May.

On Monday, our sophomores embarked on a visit to Loras College in Dubuque! Students enjoyed a campus tour, hearing from professors and admissions about the college and popular majors, and a buffet lunch in their dining hall. Could there be a future Duhawk among the Class of 2026? 🎓

The Ag Mechanics class is currently working on the small engines unit. Students learn the parts and functions of the engine parts and then work on real engines out in the shop.

April showers bring May Flowers! The horticulture class has been spending a lot of time in the greenhouse the past two weeks. They have been transplanting and caring for all of the vegetables they started from seed as well as the flowers that were planted in February. We are trying a few new varieties this year; yellow begonia, celosia, silver falls fillers and some succulents!

Elementary enjoyed our eclipse mania today. It started off with a "radio show" over the PA system complete with corny space jokes and rim shots by Mr. Dickman. We moved outside to observe the moon blocking out the sun at different times of the afternoon and we noticed that the temperature got cooler when the sun was covered. The birds in the trees around the school squawked louder than usual- we thought they were confused by the darkness. Students looked for Venus just to the left of the sun. Did you know that Venus will never have an eclipse because it doesn't have any moons at all? Jupiter has 67 moons though, so it probably has lots of eclipses. Thank you to all of our teachers and students for making this eclipse such a fun learning experience!
