5th Computers

Students will be accessing their daily work via Schoology. Parents, if you are interested in what your child has been doing, you can log-in to Schoology with your parent log-in and have "view-only" access to see the same thing your student sees. The only difference is that you cannot see your students work itself only their assignment directions and scores for graded work (or missing notations if work was not submitted).

The year will start out with an Online Safety unit to give students the knowledge to safely use the online tools that are so prevalent in our world today. Quizlet is utilized for vocab words; it is a neat online tool that creates flashcards that the students can study; and, it also provides games to practice and prepare for quizzes/tests over those vocab words. Digital Passport is the tool we will be logging into to complete the Online Safety activities; your child an show you these upon request...just ask them to log-in.

Once our Online Safety Unit is complete. Students will be applying their safety skills by using various web tools to create documents, videos and possibly a small website. These program types will be part of their every day learning in middle school, so the goal is to get them ready to use these tools effectively and efficiently. Google Drive is where they will be logging into to complete some of these tasks. PowToon is the other.

We will also complete a coding unit using Code.org. This can be a challenge for some students; they can work on these activities during study hall if they fall behind (same with all work we complete in computers).

NOTE:  If students miss school on their designated computer day, they should ask to come up and see me during study hall to complete what they missed; Mrs. Albrecht & Mrs. Benson are happy to send you up if you ask.
