DEFINITON OF TERMS:

 

Community Benefits—The access and usefulness of technology investments for the community.

 

Community Readiness—The level of interest, involvement, and commitment to technology and learning demonstrated by the community.

 

Educational Community—Students, teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and representatives of educational organizations e.g. PTO, LSC, School Board, employees.

 

Equitable Access—Equal access to the technology tools and initiatives.

 

Equitable Opportunities—The practice of defining and providing learning experiences with technology for ALL students.

 

Expected Results—Articulated and meaningful goals representing what will be changes or different.

 

Goal—An achievement or milestone you reach as you make your way to final destination.

 

Internet—A large number of computers hooked together by high-speed telephone lines and networks.

 

Network—A group of computers strung together by wire.  They could be wired together at one site (local area network) or be connected via telephone or satellite (wide area network).

 

Phase—A segment of time to be determines by the district based on variables (funding, technology, deployment, professional development, etc.)

 

Policies and Procedures—A systemic approach for usage’s, decisions and issues concerning the school and community.

 

Purchasing Decisions—A systemic, cost efficient process tied to instructional needs.

 

Service Provider—A company that supplies you with the connection that you need to access the Internet.

 

Software—A measure of appropriate quality software to support engaged learning.

 

Staff Development—The percentage of staff with adequate training and support for connecting technology uses to working and learning.

 

Staff Development Program—The strategies and methods used to support emerging learning and working practices.

 

Staff Readiness—The level of interest, involvement and commitment to technology and learning demonstrated by the staff.

 

Strategy—An activity that leads to the accomplishment of the goal.  Key milestones by which you will make and judge progress towards your destination (goal).

 

Student Readiness—The level of interest, involvement and commitment to technology and learning demonstrated by the students.

 

Technical Support—The availability of software and hardware support when needed.

 

Technology and Learning Practices—The movement from literacy uses for learning uses.

 

Technology Leadership—The systemic guidance and support of technology uses for learning goals.

 

Technology Plan—A three to five year document that addresses all components of the Illinois State Board of Education’s School District Technology Plan Blueprint.

 

Timeframe—A specific period of time.

 

Timeline—A composite of the timeframes with the corresponding strategies for all phases of the three and five-year technology plan.

 

Tool Capacity—The range of technology tools used as well as their capacity for high performance.

 

Ubiquitous Access—The availability and organization of technology tools around learning and working needs.

 

Vision—A vision is a clear, unique, owned statement of the principles and beliefs of an organization.

 

Wider Community—Composed of representatives of community organizations, business, cultural institutions, institutions of high education, public libraries and other community.

 

World Wide Web—Also known as WWW or the Web.  A graphic rich hypermedia system that enables you to move from site to site with the click of a mouse; providing useful information.
