About Me:
I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. In December 2009, I completed my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Before coming to River Ridge School, I taught in a variety of other settings, and spent a number of years at home with our two daughters. This is my eighth year of teaching at River Ridge.
Recently, I had to compile a list of leadership traits I believed a teacher should possess. The following is a portion of what I wrote:
“First, in my opinion, the most important characteristic of leadership and one that is foundational to all the others, is that of being a lifelong learner. We are not merely in the business of disseminating knowledge to our students. Instead, we are encouraging an insatiable appetite to be lifelong learners. We should be the ones that inspire curiosity. Although we need to be experts in our field, we are not merely to spew out the knowledge we possess; instead, we are helping our students discover information themselves. If we truly want our students to be continually learning, exploring, and growing; then, we ourselves must do the same.”
