GENERAL INFORMATION

I dont check book bags.  Your First Grader is responsible for turing in his/her library book, reading the book, friday folders, lunch and milk money first think Monday morning.

If your child bring a cold lunch please put it in an insulated container with a cold pack.

For recess, the children will be going outside everyday, unless it is raining or to cold.

During winter months make sure your child has snow pants, boots, jackets, gloves, hat and anything extra.  This is a requirement.

The playground supervisors are responsible for the children at recess.

Every student will get PE and noon recess each day.  However some students may need to stay inside for morning revess to complete work and/or receive individual help.

When your child celebrates his/her birthday you may bring a birthday treat for everything.  Or you may also send a birthday book to be read to the class.  The book will be marked with your child's name and birthday then placed in our classroom library. You can also deside to not celebrate your 1st graders birthday at school.

Please dont send birthday party invitations to school for your child to distribute unless the whole class in invited.  If just a few children receive invitations, there will be hurt feeling.

If your student is home sick, we will be happy to get his/her homework ready and send it to the office by 2:30 pm. for you to pick up.  Or it can be sent home with a sibling. Please tell Deb Deneen in the morning when you call before 9:00 am that you would like your child's homework and who will pick it up.

Your first graders attendance at schol is VERY IMPORTANT

There is a Show and Tell List on the Site.  Every week there will be a required item coordinated with our curriculum that your child will need to bring for show and tell.  Check the newsletter for the assigned show and tell topic.

Your first graders work will be sent home in the Friday folder each week. Please look it over and discuss it with your child.  Put it back in teh bag and return it to school on Monday.

Head lice seems to be an ongoing problem. Please check your childs hair as often as possible.  River Ridge has a "no nit" policy and checks everyone at least twice a year.  For more information contact the School Nurse Lisa Haas at scholl (815)-858-9005 ext. 333.

The goal for our Reading Award Program will be for your child to read 1 book per week starting in September and ending in April.  If the goal is met each month your first grader will earn a Reading Award Certificate, a wildcat reader T'Shirt, a free pizza party at the end of the year, a free individual pizza certificate at the end of each month, and a beaded necklace to wear to the award assembly in the spring.  Your child needs to read aloud to somebody.  Adults should ask questions about the book.
